The New York port or the New York City Passenger Ship Terminal, is a top-notch cruise ship facility and host to some of the prestigious cruise lines. Located at the mouth of River Hudson on New York Bay, the Port of New York is the 3rd largest container port in North America. Counted among the top 15 ports in the world, New York Port serves around 17 million consumers within a 25-mile radius centered on the State of Liberty. Operated by the P&O Ports North America, the port provides five 1,000-foot-long berths on the Hudson River along with three spacious terminals with ample rooftop parking.
The Port Authority of New York & New Jersey designed a master plan to improve the New York Cruise Port facilities. Approved in 2001, the plan has five main elements. Firstly, improve port productivity, secondly, increase terminal capacity, thirdly, accommodate larger ships, fourthly improve inland transportation and lastly preserve the Harbour. The Port Authority of New York & New Jersey aims at completing this plan within the coming five years.
The security system at the New York Port is amazing with radiation monitors installed that inspect all the cargoes ready to be transported. Out of the 5,000 containers that are processed on a daily basis at the Port of New York, the radiation detector machines detect around 200 false alarms that generally occur as the radiation monitors cannot differentiate between nuclear radiations and radiations from the daily life goods. But in all the security system at the New York Port is appreciable.
